</o:shapelayout></xml><![endif]--></head><body lang=EN-US link="#0563C1" vlink="#954F72"><div class=WordSection1><p class=Default><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=Default> <b><span style='font-size:14.0pt'>SZT family Reunion August 4 -5, 2018 </span></b><span style='font-size:14.0pt'><o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=Default><span style='font-size:14.0pt'>Hello everyone <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=Default><span style='font-size:14.0pt'>Our 80</span><span style='font-size:9.0pt'>th </span><span style='font-size:14.0pt'>Snell-Zimmerman-Timmerman Family Reunion was held at our historic Snells Bush Church on the hill. The event started with an ice cream social held at the church at 6 pm on Saturday night. When we got there to set up a family was walking around the cemetery--- It is always such a calm quite place to walk around the cemetery and reflect on our family buried there. Many times people are found wandering around the cemetery. The wind was up and surprised us as we had a calm day. The wind had taken one corner of the tent down so we had to call the tent man to fix one of the tents. It is always a great time to visit with the neighbors and family members that have come from near and far. Everyone enjoyed the ice cream and relaxed and enjoyed watching the sun set over the valley. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=Default><span style='font-size:14.0pt'>Sunday was a beautiful day for the reunion. At 10: 30 we had a flag raising ceremony conducted by the St Johnville American Legion. This year, they were short of some members as they were attending an event in Washington DC but the members that were there conducted a very nice ceremony. This year our dedication to our soldiers buried in our cemetery was a little different. This year in honor of World War 1, we have a veteran—Rev. J Harold Thomson buried in our cemetery. We honored his service as well as the rest of our soldiers buried there who fought for freedom and independence. He was a” Dough boy” and served in the trenches in France and was wounded. He received a purple heart. Rev. J Harold Thomson was the nephew of Emma Timmerman and visited her in the summers as he grew up and became fascinated with the Mohawk valley where his ancestor came from. Later in life he was the minister of the Presbyterian Church in Little Falls for many years. Emma Timmerman wanted to save Snells Bush Church from demolition and Rev. Harold Thomson helped her save the church. He also helped set up the family reunion with Emma. Today, they would be proud of our accomplishments to keep the Snells Bush Church an active historic site. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=Default><span style='font-size:14.0pt'>At 11 am our annual church service was held. This year we had the new minister at Ingham Mills Church conduct the service—Rev. Gary Busch. His wife Sara Schuyler is the great great granddaughter of Anna Snell and Horatio <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=Default style='page-break-before:always'><span style='font-size:14.0pt'>Schuyler. Our secretary Alice Fake was missed as she always was in charge of the church service—getting the minister, music selections, programs and flowers. But with everyone’ help the service went off nicely. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=Default><span style='font-size:14.0pt'>The service started with an organ prelude preformed on our historic pump organ by Nancy Schuyler. Rev. Busch opened the service with a call to worship followed by our traditional family reunion hymn--- “Faith of our Fathers”. The Lord Prayer and Gloria Patria followed. Jennifer Schuyler led the children’s messages which was very interesting and the children seemed to enjoy it also. Next we were entertained by the Ingham Mills band. This band was comprised of members of the Ingham Mills Church (Schuyler family members including the minister) who played various instruments—trumpet, clarinet, trombone, saxophone, flute. It was very nice and enjoyed by all present. A silent prayer for departed members and a pastoral prayer followed. The next hymn was entitled” What a Friend we have in Jesus”. The scripture reading was Hebrews 12: 1-2. The minister’s message was entitled “A cloud of witnesses I See!” It was very interesting and informative. The offering was collected and the Ingham Mills Church band played another selection which was enjoyed by all. We thank the band for their participation in our worship service and interesting music that they played. Thank you!! The service was continued with the Doxology and announcement were made by our president Bill Timmerman inviting everyone to stay for the short business meeting and luncheon. The closing hymn was entitled” Abide with me” and the benediction followed. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=Default><span style='font-size:14.0pt'>The business meeting was called to order by our president Bill Timmerman. The secretary’s report was read for the last year’s meeting by our newly appointed secretary—Stephanie Timmerman. She was appointed after the death of our long standing secretary Alice Fake. Sarah Israel made the motion to accept the minutes as read and it was seconded by Don Haughton – it passed. The treasurer’s report was handed out by our treasurer Marlene Rostohar. It was viewed and accepted to be filed with the minutes. Corresponding secretary Sarah Israel—spoke about updating the snail mail list and also the e-mail list. The snail mail list and e-mail lists were updated and worked on during the winter months to get some organization to them. Many members have moved, died, or changed address- so it makes it very difficult to keep them in order. We want to make sure we send information out to all family members. If you know of someone not on <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=Default style='page-break-before:always'><span style='font-size:14.0pt'>our list please send us the information. Our current e-mail seems to delete e-mails once they are returned and thus members do not receive our newsletter. We will be trying another way to use e-mail to send out information to the members as well as keep the old way. Hopefully we will be able to reach everyone. Please let us know if you do not receive the newsletters. Ronald Timmerman reported for Wendy Marchese our wedding coordinator that we will have two wedding this fall. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=Default><span style='font-size:14.0pt'>Old business--- We are still working on getting the church scraped and painted. The painter we hired had medical problems and is now working on scraping and painting the outside of church. We will look for bids to touch up the interior in the future. We will be having three window sent out to be repaired this winter. They will come this fall to take out the windows and board it up. It takes a while to repair the windows as each piece of glass needs to come out and the wood replaced and then next spring rehung with new rope pulleys. We are again spraying under the church this fall to keep the beetle away. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=Default><span style='font-size:14.0pt'>New business--- We have to elect a new treasurer as Marlene’s term is up and she wants to retire after doing the job for many years. Thank you Marlene for all the work you did as treasurer. It is a very big job! Peter Burkdorf volunteered to be treasurer. Nominations from the floor were asked for--- none came so a motion was made by Sarah Israel for Peter Burkdorf to be our new treasurer. The motion was seconded by Don Haughton and voted on which passed. We also had two director terms which are expiring. Don Johnson and Ronald Timmerman. Again we asked for nomination from the floor. We need young board members as everyone is getting older and it was also stated that in this age of computers and phone--- that you really need not be a local resident to serve as an officer of SZT. We can always reach a member by phone or e-mail. A motion was made by Nancy Cioch and seconded by Don Haughton to appoint Don Johnson for another term and Nicole Keyser to be directors for the next term. Sarah Burkdorf will complete Peter Burkdorf’s term as director as he is now our treasurer. Another problem that we have is the cemetery stones--- during the harsh winter some of the markers have problems. We are working fixing them. It was suggested that we have someone come and give us and suggestion on fixing some of the stones. We need to have a work session to clean some of the markers, and straighten some of them. The old dead tree was taken <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=Default style='page-break-before:always'><span style='font-size:14.0pt'>down by Bill Timmerman. The lower cemetery looks ok but the markers need cleaning. Mowing is our biggest expense. In the fall we are going list in the newspaper that we are taking bids for mowing the cemeteries for the following year . <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=Default><span style='font-size:14.0pt'>Lunch was an interesting time. We have plenty of food and while we sat a chatted to family members and friends. We were treated to a presentation from a re-enactor and his wife dressed in colonial dress. Ken Shults and his wife like to attend our church service and Ken was kind enough to talk to us about the bateau that carried freight and passengers up and down the Mohawk River. Everyone found the subject very interesting and Ken stated that everything carried on the bateau was put in barrels and the boat could carry 1000 pounds.
