<div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div>SZT family Reunion August 4 -5, 2018</div><div><br></div><div>Hello everyone</div><div><br></div><div>Our 80 th Snell-Zimmerman-Timmerman Family Reunion was held at our</div><div>historic Snells Bush Church on the hill. The event started with an ice cream social</div><div>held at the church at 6 pm on Saturday night. When we got there to set up a</div><div>family was walking around the cemetery--- It is always such a calm quite place to</div><div>walk around the cemetery and reflect on our family buried there. Many times</div><div>people are found wandering around the cemetery. The wind was up and</div><div>surprised us as we had a calm day. The wind had taken one corner of the tent</div><div>down so we had to call the tent man to fix one of the tents. It is always a great</div><div>time to visit with the neighbors and family members that have come from near</div><div>and far. Everyone enjoyed the ice cream and relaxed and enjoyed watching the</div><div>sun set over the valley.</div><div><br></div><div>Sunday was a beautiful day for the reunion. At 10: 30 we had a flag raising</div><div>ceremony conducted by the St Johnville American Legion. This year, they were</div><div>short of some members as they were attending an event in Washington DC but</div><div>the members that were there conducted a very nice ceremony. This year our</div><div>dedication to our soldiers buried in our cemetery was a little different. This year</div><div>in honor of World War 1, we have a veteran—Rev. J Harold Thomson buried in</div><div>our cemetery. We honored his service as well as the rest of our soldiers buried</div><div>there who fought for freedom and independence. He was a” Dough boy” and</div><div>served in the trenches in France and was wounded. He received a purple heart.</div><div>Rev. J Harold Thomson was the nephew of Emma Timmerman and visited her in</div><div>the summers as he grew up and became fascinated with the Mohawk valley</div><div>where his ancestor came from. Later in life he was the minister of the</div><div>Presbyterian Church in Little Falls for many years. Emma Timmerman wanted to</div><div>save Snells Bush Church from demolition and Rev. Harold Thomson helped her</div><div>save the church. He also helped set up the family reunion with Emma. Today,</div><div>they would be proud of our accomplishments to keep the Snells Bush Church an</div><div>active historic site.</div><div><br></div><div>At 11 am our annual church service was held. This year we had the new</div><div>minister at Ingham Mills Church conduct the service—Rev. Gary Busch. His wife</div><div>Sara Schuyler is the great great granddaughter of Anna Snell and Horatio</div><div><br></div><div>Schuyler. Our secretary Alice Fake was missed as she always was in charge of the</div><div>church service—getting the minister, music selections, programs and flowers.</div><div>But with everyone’ help the service went off nicely.</div><div><br></div><div>The service started with an organ prelude preformed on our historic pump</div><div>organ by Nancy Schuyler. Rev. Busch opened the service with a call to worship</div><div>followed by our traditional family reunion hymn--- “Faith of our Fathers”. The</div><div>Lord Prayer and Gloria Patria followed. Jennifer Schuyler led the children’s</div><div>messages which was very interesting and the children seemed to enjoy it also.</div><div>Next we were entertained by the Ingham Mills band. This band was comprised of</div><div>members of the Ingham Mills Church (Schuyler family members including the</div><div>minister) who played various instruments—trumpet, clarinet, trombone,</div><div>saxophone, flute. It was very nice and enjoyed by all present. A silent prayer for</div><div>departed members and a pastoral prayer followed. The next hymn was entitled”</div><div>What a Friend we have in Jesus”. The scripture reading was Hebrews 12: 1-2. The</div><div>minister’s message was entitled “A cloud of witnesses I See!” It was very</div><div>interesting and informative. The offering was collected and the Ingham Mills</div><div>Church band played another selection which was enjoyed by all. We thank the</div><div>band for their participation in our worship service and interesting music that they</div><div>played. Thank you!! The service was continued with the Doxology and</div><div>announcement were made by our president Bill Timmerman inviting everyone to</div><div>stay for the short business meeting and luncheon. The closing hymn was</div><div>entitled” Abide with me” and the benediction followed.</div><div><br></div><div>The business meeting was called to order by our president Bill Timmerman.</div><div>The secretary’s report was read for the last year’s meeting by our newly</div><div>appointed secretary—Stephanie Timmerman. She was appointed after the death</div><div>of our long standing secretary Alice Fake. Sarah Israel made the motion to accept</div><div>the minutes as read and it was seconded by Don Haughton – it passed. The</div><div>treasurer’s report was handed out by our treasurer Marlene Rostohar. It was</div><div>viewed and accepted to be filed with the minutes. Corresponding secretary Sarah</div><div>Israel—spoke about updating the snail mail list and also the e-mail list. The snail</div><div>mail list and e-mail lists were updated and worked on during the winter months</div><div>to get some organization to them. Many members have moved, died, or changed</div><div>address- so it makes it very difficult to keep them in order. We want to make sure</div><div>we send information out to all family members. If you know of someone not on</div><div><br></div><div>our list please send us the information. Our current e-mail seems to delete e-</div><div>mails once they are returned and thus members do not receive our newsletter.</div><div>We will be trying another way to use e-mail to send out information to the</div><div>members as well as keep the old way. Hopefully we will be able to reach</div><div>everyone. Please let us know if you do not receive the newsletters. Ronald</div><div>Timmerman reported for Wendy Marchese our wedding coordinator that we will</div><div>have two wedding this fall.</div><div><br></div><div>Old business--- We are still working on getting the church scraped and</div><div>painted. The painter we hired had medical problems and is now working on</div><div>scraping and painting the outside of church. We will look for bids to touch up the</div><div>interior in the future. We will be having three window sent out to be repaired</div><div>this winter. They will come this fall to take out the windows and board it up. It</div><div>takes a while to repair the windows as each piece of glass needs to come out and</div><div>the wood replaced and then next spring rehung with new rope pulleys. We are</div><div>again spraying under the church this fall to keep the beetle away.</div><div>New business--- We have to elect a new treasurer as Marlene’s term is up</div><div>and she wants to retire after doing the job for many years. Thank you Marlene</div><div>for all the work you did as treasurer. It is a very big job! Peter Burkdorf</div><div>volunteered to be treasurer. Nominations from the floor were asked for--- none</div><div>came so a motion was made by Sarah Israel for Peter Burkdorf to be our new</div><div>treasurer. The motion was seconded by Don Haughton and voted on which</div><div>passed. We also had two director terms which are expiring. Don Johnson and</div><div>Ronald Timmerman. Again we asked for nomination from the floor. We need</div><div>young board members as everyone is getting older and it was also stated that in</div><div>this age of computers and phone--- that you really need not be a local resident to</div><div>serve as an officer of SZT. We can always reach a member by phone or e-mail.</div><div>A motion was made by Nancy Cioch and seconded by Don Haughton to appoint</div><div>Don Johnson for another term and Nicole Keyser to be directors for the next</div><div>term. Sarah Burkdorf will complete Peter Burkdorf’s term as director as he is</div><div>now our treasurer. Another problem that we have is the cemetery stones---</div><div>during the harsh winter some of the markers have problems. We are working</div><div>fixing them. It was suggested that we have someone come and give us and</div><div>suggestion on fixing some of the stones. We need to have a work session to clean</div><div>some of the markers, and straighten some of them. The old dead tree was taken </div><div>down by Bill Timmerman. The lower cemetery looks ok but the markers need</div><div>cleaning. Mowing is our biggest expense. In the fall we are going list in the</div><div>newspaper that we are taking bids for mowing the cemeteries for the following</div><div>year.</div><div><br></div><div>Lunch was an interesting time. We have plenty of food and while we sat a</div><div>chatted to family members and friends. We were treated to a presentation from</div><div>a re-enactor and his wife dressed in colonial dress. Ken Shults and his wife like</div><div>to attend our church service and Ken was kind enough to talk to us about the</div><div>bateau that carried freight and passengers up and down the Mohawk River.</div><div>Everyone found the subject very interesting and Ken stated that everything</div><div>carried on the bateau was put in barrels and the boat could carry 1000 pounds.</div><div>They also had to do carry the freight around the falls especially Little Falls, and</div><div>where the river was shallow they had to pull the boat either in the water of on</div><div>the shore with a rope.</div><div><br></div><div>As always if you need to contact us please send your request for books to the</div><div>following address:</div><div>Snell -Zimmerman -Timmerman (SZT) Family reunion Inc. P O Box 623 Little Falls</div><div>New York 13365. Our web site is szt-genealogy.org--- Kevin Jorrey our web</div
