<div dir="ltr"><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size:small"><br clear="all"></div><div><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_signature" data-smartmail="gmail_signature"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size:small">Snell-Timmerman-Zimmerman 81st Annual Family Reunion<br></div>August 3, 2019 and August 4, 2019<br>By Sarah Timmerman Israel <br>Corresponding secretary<br><br><br>On August 3, 2019 and August 4, 2019 the Snell-Zimmerman-Timmerman family reunion was held at our historic Snells Bush Church.  Our annual ice cream social was held at 6 pm Saturday August 3, 2019.  The weather was warm and everyone enjoyed ice cream (sponsored by Stewarts) with friends, family and neighbors.<br><br>The annual family reunion was held August 4, 2019 at Snells Bush church. The St Johnsville American Legion started the event with the flag raising ceremony.  A short memorial dedication was presented for our patriots buried at the church cemetery. This year, we featured Lieutenant Henry Timmerman and Private Peter Snell and wreaths were laid at their grave site in the cemetery.  Every reunion, we like to honor not only our featured patriots and all the soldiers buried in our cemetery who fought to defend our rights to freedom and liberty those many years ago. We need to remind ourselves of the struggle these soldiers and what their families endured.<br><br>The annual traditional church service started at 11 AM with the ringing of the church bell. This year, the service was conducted by one of our own members, Pastor Gertrude Ortlieb.  Pastor Gertrude Ortlieb served the Ingham Mills Baptist Church for twenty years and she is the great granddaughter of Anna Snell and Horatio Schuyler (a descendant of Peter Snell).  Nancy Schuyler is the Music Director at Ingham Mills Baptist Church preformed the opening prelude on our historic pump organ.  Pastor Ortlieb called to worship and welcomed everyone to the traditional service at Snells Bush Church.  The service was opened with a traditional hymn “Faith of our Fathers”.  This hymn has been played and sung by the congregation every time there is a service at Snells Bush Church.  The words in the song reminds us of the problems the early settlers had living on the frontier.  The Lord’s Prayer and Gloria Patria were followed by the children’s message. A silent prayer for the departed members was followed by a pastoral prayer.  The next hymn sung was entitled “Softly and Tenderly Jesus is Calling” followed by the scripture reading was Colossians 3:1-11.   The sermon message was entitled “Enough is Enough Already!” which everyone enjoyed.  The offering was conducted while Carol Timmerman and she sang a beautiful song with her soprano voice. The Doxology was next followed by a prayer of thanksgiving.   Bill Timmerman, our president, made announcements and asked everyone to stay for a short business meeting followed by lunch.  The closing hymn  was entitled “Jesus Calls Us” followed by the benediction.<br><br><br>Business Meeting<br><br>Bill Timmerman our president opened the meeting. The secretary report was given by Stephanie Timmerman.    A motion was made and passed <br><br><br>Corresponding Secretary <br><br>Corresponding secretary Sarah Israel stated that we are having a lot of problems with our e-mail and postal mail and we will be working on this problem during the winter months. The largest issue is that the newsletter and other information are not getting out to the members.  We are putting the newsletter on the website (<a href="http://szt-genalogy.org">szt-genalogy.org</a>) to help mitigate the problem. We also need update on the mailing address and e-mail addresses of our membership. Kevin Jorrey, our web master, also would requests stories about the family that can be placed on the website. We also need new photos for the web site.  We also are trying to update the family genealogy with births, deaths, and marriages to keep our records current<br><br><br>Mailing address<br><br>SZT family Reunion <br>PO Box 623 <br>Little Falls New York 13365.  <br>You can also reach us at <a href="mailto:Sarahtisrael@yahoo.com">Sarahtisrael@yahoo.com</a>,phone 518-489-2725 or <a href="mailto:ncioch@yahoo.com">ncioch@yahoo.com</a> phone 315-855-3419<br><br><br>Treasurer Report<br><br>Peter Burkdorf reported that he had a lot of book orders this year. We also have a brokerage account and we received donations throughout the year. We need these donations to keep the reunion and grounds keeping going every year.  The ice cream social is great fund raiser and we looking into doing additional fund raiser events throughout the year.  We also have vast amount genealogy books for sale which can tell us our family history and how we are all related.<br><br><br>Old Business<br><br>The three window that were repaired during the winter are reinstalled and rehung and now we can open the windows, which is something that has not happened in many years.   Brandt made braces to hold the window open.  The painter is still working on repainting the church.  He has completed both sides and the rear walls and in process of painting the front. He removed the front shutters to paint fixed the slats and will be reinstalling them when he completes the project.  He still needs to scrape and paint the front and will on to the steeple.   The lights in the stain glass windows in the front of the church need replacement and they are only accessible from outside of the building.  The lights in the steeple also need to be replaced and will be done when the painter is painting the steeple.<br><br><br>New Business<br><br>Thank you to everyone that helped with the tables, set up and the donation of food, and other tasks to make our reunion a success.   We  need to fill two Director terms that were held by Sarah Burkdorf (who finished Peter Burkdorf term) and Larry Sekel.   Sarah Buckdorf  volunteered to fill the post of Vice President and Larry Sekel volunteered for another term as Director.  Sue Vickery volunteered fill the other Director position and Bill Timmerman was reelected as President.  A vote was taken to accept the new elected officers and passed.<br><br><br>Other business<br><br>We need to install a handicap ramp to accommodate some of our members that have trouble walking into the church.  It was suggested to get a portable ramp which we can purchase at Lowes and easily store in the church.   A motion was made to not to exceed $500 for the portable ramp and was passed. The cemetery requires some maintenance because  some of the stones are leaning over and need to be straightened.  Also, some of the stones need to cleaned in a manner that does not damage them. We are looking to recruit some of the members from the younger generations to help out with the reunion or join the board. This will allow us to have a family reunion every year and include our children in our rich family history.<br><br>We adjoined the meeting and had a wonderful lunch.  After the lunch we had a presentation of the bateaux, a replica of the original boats one that traveled up and down the Mohawk and Hudson Rivers  carrying supplies and passengers to the settlers along the rivers.  Many of our ancestors worked on those bateaux’s during the Revolutionary War. The bateaux is a beautiful boat that has traveled the water way of Lake Champlain Lake George and Hudson river this summer. <br><br><br><br><br>The following books are available from the SZT Reunion, Inc. Price does not include S&H, S&H is $5.50 unless otherwise noted. Checks should be made payable to the SZT Reunion and mailed to: Treasurer, SZT Reunion, Inc., P.O. Box 623, Little Falls, NY 13365. <br><br><br>The 18th Century Zimmerman Family of the Mohawk Valley, 1994. Written by David Kendall Martin, this book traces the descendants of Jacob and Margaretha Jung Zimmerman for six generations (over nearly two hundred years) from their German home village in the mid-1600's to the Mohawk Valley and beyond. It is a handsome, indexed, 8.5" x 11" hard covered book with over 300 pages heavily illustrated with photographs, maps, and signatures. Among the many related family names in the book are: Getman, Walrad, Petrie, Read, Bellinger, Smith, Fox, Failing, Van Allen, Herder, Hutchins, Dockey, Sponable, Bauder, and others. $22.50<br><br>The 18th Century Snell Family of the Mohawk Valley, 1982.  Written by David Kendall Martin, the format and contents of this book are similar to the above Zimmerman book. David Martin gives all available information on those Snells born before 1800 in Germany and New York. The various lines are carried well into the 1800's. The book is in 8.5" x 11" format, with a soft cover. $7.50<br><br>The 18th Century Failing Family of the Mohawk Valley, 1979.  Written by David Kendall Martin, this soft cover book traces descendants of Henrich H. and Anna Maria Kunigunda Failing from 1710 to 1900. The book is rich with history, family lore, illustrations, documents and maps. $10.00<br><br>Four books complement David Martin’s 18th Century Zimmerman Family by extending the known descendants of four sons of Jacob and Margaretha Schutz Zimmerman (David, Lawrence, George, and Henry) into the latter part of the 20th century. A fifth book extends David Martin’s 18th Century Snell Family by continuing the descendants of Peter Snell into the 20th century.<br>      <br>Descendants of David Timmerman of the Mohawk Valley, NY, 1998. Written by Carolyn Timmerman Sidenius, this book is based on the 1925 work by Manley Timmerman, but is greatly expanded from that work. Family names found within the 200 page book include Allison, Cronk, Durner, Fellows, Gaylord, Smith, Spoor, Van Deusen, Wooledge, and Zoller. Soft cover. $9.00<br> <br>Descendants of Lawrence Timmerman of the Mohawk Valley, NY, 1998. Written by Carolyn Timmerman Sidenius. Among the descendants of Lawrence covered by this book are those of his granddaughter, Gertrude, who married John C. Timerman, a grandson of Conrad Zimmerman (and brother to Lawrence, David, Henry, and George) and moved to Perch Lake, Jefferson County, NY. This 150 page genealogy (plus a 50 page index) also includes many descendants of Henry Lawrence Timmerman who moved to Indiana. Family names in the index include Snell (117), Bahar, Baker, Bowman, Broughton, Brown, Cramer, Darling, Dunten, Hoover, Lobdell, Meyer, Mosher, Petrie, Van Allen, and many others. $9.00<br><br>Descendants of George Timmerman (1734-1800) of Mohawk Valley, NY, 1995. Written by Carolyn Timmerman Sidenius. George, another son of the immigrant Jacob Zimmerman, was baptized by an itinerant pastor on 20 Jan. 1734. His wife was Anna Elizabeth Klock, a daughter of Johannes and Anna Margaretha Fox Klock. George had 10 children. Their numerous descendants have been ably documented in this 8.5" x 11" typed book of almost 300 pages, with a soft but durable cover. The index of this genealogy includes Bellingers (209 names) of Onondaga, Jefferson, and St. Lawrence counties in New York; Billings; Broat (94); Fox, Frye, Flanders; Hayes (339); Keyser/Kyser (78); Levee; Mason; Mosher; Robinson; Snell; Van Gorder (70); and Williams. $12.50<br> <br>Descendants of Lt. Henry Timmerman of Herkimer County, NY, 1988. Written by Carolyn Timmerman Sidenius. Written by Carolyn Timmerman Sidenius, tHenry, son of the immigrant Jacob, was born about 30 Dec. 1737 and died 18 May 1807. While born a Zimmerman, most of the family changed to the Anglicized spelling of Timmerman after the Revolution. He settled in what is now the town of Manheim in Herkimer County. He was twice married - to Catherine Fox and then to Margaret Bellinger. He had 19 children - 7 boys and 12 girls - of whom 15 were living at the time of his death. His numerous descendants are found throughout the Mohawk Valley, New York state, and the U.S. and Canada. This hard cover 8.5" x 11" book, with over 300 pages, follows a great number of them into the 1980s. The index includes many Snells, Getmans, Greens/Greenes, Handys, Herkimers, Klocks, Robinsons, Vedders, Walraths, and others. $17.50<br> <br>Descendants of Peter and Anna Kilts Snell of the Mohawk Valley, NY, 1992. Written by Carolyn Timmerman Sidenius. Peter Snell (s/o Johan Jost and Maria Catharine Kraft Snell) was born about 24 June 1730, probably in Schoharie County, NY, and died in Snells Bush, Manheim, Herkimer County, NY, in 1804. He married Susanna "Anna" Kilts (d/o Peter and Anna Maria Bellinger Kilts). At the time of Anna’s death, she left 420 descendants. This 334 page typed book, with a soft cover, traces over 3400 descendants, many into the 1990s. $35.00<br><br><br>Other Publications<br>    <br>The War Years in the Mohawk Valley. By Frank C. Bellinger. Articles describe conditions, activities, and battles during the Revolution and its aftermath. Pamphlet. 1983, 20 pp. $2.00<br><br>Fifty Years With the Faith of Our Fathers. By Carolyn Timmerman Sidenius and Edith S. Timmerman. A history of our Reunion and church compiled for the Reunion’s 50th Anniversary from newspaper accounts, early newsletters, and meeting and reunion minutes. It is particularly informative for new members. Pamphlet. 1988, 48pp.$2.00<br><br>American Patriots at the Battle of Oriskany. By Vera De Witt. A register of Tryon County Militia and New York volunteers in the Revolutionary War. Soft covered. 1977, 60 pp. $7.50<br>         <br>With My Grandparents. Pamphlet by Ada L. F. Snell. 1972, 2003 40 pp. $1.50<br>  <br>The Lawrence Zimmerman Papers. From The Enterprise and News, 1939. The SZT Reunion, Inc., 2003 Pamphlet. 1939, 2003 32 pp. $3.00<br>    <br>Homestead Notes. By Emma S. Timmerman. Soft cover. 1971, 2003, 28 pp. $7.00<br><br>Palatines Along The Mohawk. By Ada L. F. Snell. Soft cover, 1948, 2002, 76 pp. $12.00<br><br><br>(The newsletter above was reformatted to make it suitable for email. The newsletter is available at <a href="http://szt-genealogy.org">http://szt-genealogy.org</a> in its originl form -> left side menu -> "Minutes, News" -> "SZT Meeting Minutes" -> 2019 column, Fall News Letters row.)</div></div></div></div></div>
