<div><br></div><div><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr"></div><div lang="EN-US" link="#0563C1" vlink="#954F72" style="overflow-wrap: break-word;"><div class="m_-2942268949707540532WordSection1"><p class="MsoNormal"> <u></u>Snell-Zimmerman-Timmerman Family Reunion Newsletter-----Spring 2023</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="border-color:rgb(255,255,255)">Hello,</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="border-color:rgb(255,255,255)">Winter is a cold, snowy memory and it is time to start thinking about summer activities. The Mohawk</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="border-color:rgb(255,255,255)">Valley has many events to attend during the spring, summer, and fall months. So start planning your events that you might want to attend. The following are some events that will be happening:</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="border-color:rgb(255,255,255)">Snell-Zimmerman-Timmerman family reunion which will be held at our historic church--Snells Bush Church----- the last Sunday in August--- August 27, 2023---- The SZT board decided to hold the reunion the last Sunday in August as that was how it originally was scheduled when the reunion was held from 1938---thru the 1990’s. It was changed in the 1990’s to the first Sunday in August so members could send their children off to college -- but today that is not a problem as everyone now goes at their special time to college--due to sports and various activities. Since our attendance is very low the board will be trying the last Sunday in August to see if more members can attend the reunion. We hope more will be able to attend and visit our historic church on the hill. Whenever you are in the area and want to visit Snells Bush Church, contact one of the officers and someone can meet you at the church.</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="border-color:rgb(255,255,255)">--------Here are some of the events during the season to attend if you are in the area----------</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="border-color:rgb(255,255,255)">Oriskany, NY------Commemoration at the Oriskany Battlefield will be held on August 6, 2023.</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="border-color:rgb(255,255,255)">With the reunion being held at a different date, this will be easier for our SZT members to attend the Oriskany Commemoration. It is a wonderful event to honor our ancestors that fought so valiantly there. Many lost their lives, or were seriously wounded at that pivotal battle during the Revolutionary War in 1777. Our ancestors who fought with General Herkimer, did their part to hold back the forces of the British under Lieut. Col. Barry St. Leger with his Loyalists and Joseph Brant’s men.</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="border-color:rgb(255,255,255)">Rome NY-----While in the area Fort Stanwix is a great place to visit. Visit the fort and see how the soldiers lived there.</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="border-color:rgb(255,255,255)">Herkimer NY------Take a ride on the Erie Canal and go thru the locks. There is a place –Gems Along the Mohawk - where one can take a boat ride on the canal and visit the restaurant and gift shop there. Bicycle and hiking trails lead east and west along the Canal.</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="border-color:rgb(255,255,255)">Visit the Herkimer Historical Society and Museum where there is information on genealogy and history of Herkimer County. Visit Fort Herkimer Church, which is the second oldest church in the state, and its cemetery.</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="border-color:rgb(255,255,255)">St Johnsville, NY----Fort Klock is a historic homestead where one can see how the colonist lived and worked. They have special events and tours going on all the time. Reany library is another place to visit as there is a museum there and has many items from the valley and genealogy. Nellis Tavern will be open on Sundays.</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="border-color:rgb(255,255,255)">Stone Arabia, NY ----has the historic Kilts homestead--a homestead with various events during the summer months. Visit the historic Dutch Reformed Church and Lutheran Church and cemeteries.</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="border-color:rgb(255,255,255)">Fort Plain, NY--- Fort Plain Museum is a great place to visit and they have events throughout the season.</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="border-color:rgb(255,255,255)">Canajoharie, NY---- Canajoharie Arkell Library and Art Museum and the history of the Beech- nut plant.</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="border-color:rgb(255,255,255)">Little Falls, NY ----- Little Falls Historical Museum located in the historic bank building has a collection of history of Little Falls. Also don’t forget to visit Canal Place where visitors can find restaurants, art gallery, antique shops, selection of night events and beautiful views of the canal and river. If you like rock climbing don’t forget to visit Moss Island, and the lift lock on the canal. Little Falls was the home of the Cheese industry and each year a Cheese Festival Event is held and also Canal Celebration, the second
